BJP candidate from Mandi and actress Kangana Ranaut may be in trouble for using terms like ‘Chhota Pappu’ in reference to Himachal Pradesh PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh as the Congress has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission regarding the language used by her during a public meeting in Manali on April 11.
In its complaint, the Congress alleged that Kangana breached the model code of conduct by using terms like “Raja Beta” and “Raja Bhaiyya” who “mostly remains drunk or under the influence of drugs”.
Alleged violation of poll code
The Congress has raised objections to terms such as “Chhota Pappu”, “Raja Beta” and “Raja Babu”, demanding action against Kangana over the alleged violation of election conduct guidelines. Congress state leaders and workers are irked over Kangana’s choice of language.
Responding to the complaint, Himachal Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Maneesh Garg has sought a comprehensive report on Kangana Ranaut’s statements from the District Collector and District Election Officer of Kullu. The Election Commission will then decide on further action based on this report.
Uncivilised rhetoric, says party
Kangana, upon her return from Mumbai, referred to Rahul Gandhi as “Bada Pappu” and Vikramaditya Singh as “Chhota Pappu” during her address in Manali on Thursday. She singled out Vikramaditya Singh, personally labelling him as “Raja Beta” and “Raja Babu”. She asserted that she had encountered many such “Pappus” in Bollywood as well, showing no signs of intimidation.
A Congress leader called Kangana’s language as uncivilised, emphasising that such rhetoric had no precedence in Devbhoomi Himachal. Kangana’s targeting of Vikramaditya Singh has garnered widespread attention on social media platforms.
Jai Ram calls it ‘brother-sister duel’
Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur chose to downplay the verbal altercation between the two leaders, stating it as a matter concerning both a “brother and a sister”. Notably, Vikramaditya Singh has repeatedly referred to Kangana as an elder sister, while Kangana herself addressed Vikramaditya as a younger brother.
