IND vs ENG: Yashasvi Jaiswal hits maiden Test double-ton, becomes 9th Indian to achieve feat vs ENG

Visakhapatnam: India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal has been in great form as he smashed his maiden Test double ton on Saturday (Feb 3) in Visakhapatnam against England.
Jaiswal, who broke into the Indian team in 2023 enjoyed a stellar start to his Test career and brought his double ton in the opening session of the Day 2. Jaiswal’s 209 has been the difference-maker for the Indian side as Rohit Sharma’s men march towards a big first-innings total in the second Test match.
Jaiswal is now the seventh Indian batter to score a Test double ton against England, joining the likes of Virat Kohli and Sunil Gavaskar.
On the second ball of the 102nd over, Jaiswal scored a sweeping four following a six on the first ball against bowler Shoaib Bashir. This resulted in him scoring his maiden Test double ton and becoming just the ninth Indian batter and the third youngest from the nation to achieve the feat. After scoring the four, he was over the moon as he celebrated in front of a full house in Visakhapatnam.
Jaiswal, 22, has been India’s lone fighter in the innings so far with some support from batter Shubman Gill, who scored 34 on Day 1. The youngster has lacked support at one end but did not give up before scoring his maiden double ton.
At the time of writing, India were 383/8 with Jaiswal being scalped by James Anderson soon after his double ton while Kuldeep Yadav was at the other end batting on 4. The hosts also lost Ravichandran Ashwin (20) in the first session of Day 2 but will look to put a big total on the board.
England will now look for a solid start to their first innings, something they lacked in the Hyderabad Test. They will bank on the services of Ollie Pope, Zak Crawley and Joe Root. Pope had scored 196 runs in the second innings of the opening Test match. India on the other hand will look for a positive start with the ball with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Mukesh Kumar.
