MANDI: The Special Olympics Bharat Chetna Foundation organised a one-day district-level quiz competition for intellectually challenged children. The event took place at Kamaksha Hotel and Banquets on Wednesday (January 31) in Sundernagar in Mandi district.
Nachan MLA Vinod Kumar was the chief guest during the inaugural function while Rajendra Pal Thakur, DGM, Cooperative Society, Gohar, presided over the closing ceremony. Anupama Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Sardar Patel University, Mandi, was the special guest during the event.
Sixty participants took part in the competition, forming 30 groups. Among them, 20 children were from Sakaar, Sundarnagar; 30 children from Sahyog Special School, Nagchala, and 10 from DIET-SSA, Mandi. Of all the participants, six groups were selected for the semifinal and final rounds.
The first position was secured by Group A — Suraj and Ishan from Sakar School, Mandi; the second position by Group C — Manish and Vishal from DAV School, Sundarnagar; the third position by Group E — Radha and Anjali from Sahyog Special School, Nagchala, and the fourth position by Group F — Pradeep and Damini from Sahyog Special School, Nagchala.
In the competition, volunteers and examiners from CRI Sundernagar, including Khushali Sharma, Vinay Thakur, Aman Sharma, Manoj Thakur, Pankaj Kumar, Daksha Sharma, Pavana Devi, Bhavna Thakur and Neena Dixit participated. Winners received certificates and mementos, while all participants were given participation certificates.
Talking to TNR, Jagdish Rana, president of Special Olympics Bharat, Mandi chapter, said that Chetna Foundation was an NGO working with the motive to bring social change through development activities. “Our aim is to bring social change through developmental activities and integrating the disabled and deprived sections of the society, enabling them to be able members of the society and lead life with dignity and honour,” he said.
Karm Singh Saini, vice-president of Special Olympics Bharat’s Mandi chapter, secretary Dr Kanwar Singh, vice-president Dropadi Thakur, Ram Pal Gupta from Rotary Club, Sundernagar, Manoj Gupta, Geeta Purohit, Gaurav Sharma were among those present at the event.
