TNR Desk

Sarkaghat: The long-cherished dream of witnessing a bus in the courtyard of Kas village, situated in the remote Bhadrota region of the Sarkaghat assembly constituency in Mandi district, became a reality on Saturday. After 77 years of independence, a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus arrived in this geographically challenging and high-altitude village.

SDM Sarkaghat Swati Dogra, XEN PWD Chuni Lal Sharma, Regional Manager HRTC Sarkaghat Meharchand, and DSP Sarkaghat, accompanied by other dignitaries, boarded the bus to reach the village of Kas. Village Panchayat Pradhan Rup Lal and several dignitaries were present to witness this historic occasion. The trial for the newly paved road leading to the village was deemed successful on Saturday.

The arrival of the bus brought excitement to the people of Kas. Residents of all ages, including children, the elderly, women, men, and youths, expressed their joy at the prospect of finally having access to transportation, 77 years after India gained independence. Officials confirmed the success of the trial, paving the way for HRTC to establish a regular bus service to the village Kas along a designated route.

For the residents of Kas, the newly constructed road proved suitable for the bus’s arrival. Sohan Singh (90), Munshi Ram (81), Subedar Bihari Lal (80), Subedar Hem Raj (70), Udham Singh Thakur (81), Banshi Lal (75), Anant Ram Bisht (70), Lajya Devi (Ward Panch, 70), Bohar Devi (82), Satish Verma (60), Ward Panch Byasa Devi, and former Ward Panch Kishan Chand shared their elation. They recalled initiating efforts in 1993 to construct a suitable road for bus access to the village, facing numerous obstacles along the way. In 2019-20, with the MLA’s prioritization and under NABARD, approximately 4 crores were invested to make the road to the village concrete.

The persistent efforts of the people have finally paid off, and the community is now celebrating the arrival of the bus. Residents expressed gratitude to the government and expressed hope that regular bus services would commence soon.
