Himachal Pradesh BJP spokesperson Sanjay Sharma hailed the 18th BRICS Summit 2026, held in New Delhi, as a landmark diplomatic and commercial victory for India. He said the New Delhi Declaration sends a strong global message against cross-border terrorism and delivers a direct rebuke to Pakistan’s terror-driven agenda.

Key Highlights of the Declaration

  • Crackdown on Cross-Border Terrorism: The declaration unanimously condemned terrorism in all forms, calling for an end to terror financing and safe havens. This is seen as a sharp international reprimand of Pakistan’s policies.
  • Global Condemnation of Pahalgam Attack: The inclusion and strong denunciation of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir marks a major diplomatic success for India.
  • Trade in Local Currencies: BRICS nations agreed to expand trade in local currencies and integrate digital payment systems like India’s UPI, reducing dependence on the US dollar and benefiting Indian MSMEs.
  • Opposition to Protectionism: India led the pushback against unilateral tariffs and trade restrictions, while securing consensus on transparent supply chains for critical minerals, strengthening India’s industrial base.
  • India as Mediator for Global Peace: Amid the Russia-Ukraine war and West Asia crisis, India played a key role in easing tensions between Iran and the UAE, reinforcing its image as a “friend of the world.”

Statement from BJP

Sanjay Sharma emphasized that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary leadership, India is not only safeguarding its borders but also steering the Global South toward new directions in economy, trade, and peace.
