Palampur : The lease process between the Himachal Pradesh state government and IIT Mandi for the construction of the new Palampur IIT campus has been officially completed, marking a significant step forward in the project.
The announcement was made today by Chief Minister’s Principal Advisor (Digital Technology, Governance and Innovation), Gokul Butail, during a press conference in Palampur. A formal lease deed has been executed for approximately 550 kanals of land, with an additional 800 kanals to be leased following forest clearance procedures. In total, the proposed campus will cover nearly 1,400 kanals.

- Survey Status: Majority of preliminary construction surveys completed by NIT Hamirpur
- Regional Impact: Expected to boost education, employment, and technological innovation, transforming the Kangra district and Palampur economy
Speaking at the briefing, Butail highlighted the decisive actions of the state government in clearing the path for this institution of national importance, expressing optimism that IIT Mandi will expedite further development.
IIT Mandi Registrar Kumar Sambhav Pandey, present at the conference, affirmed the institute’s commitment to building a state-of-the-art facility within the stipulated timeframe. He credited Butail’s collaborative efforts for the swift conclusion of the lease process.
The press conference was also attended by Municipal Corporation Commissioner Netra Meti, Tehsildar Sajan Bagga, and ITI Mandi Principal Ajesh Kumar.
