A special awareness programme on GST Compliance and Revenue Enhancement was organised at Tandon Club, Kangra, by the Department of State Taxes & Excise, Himachal Pradesh. The programme brought together local business owners and taxpayers for a direct interaction with tax officials on GST compliance and related issues.
Joint Commissioner Rakesh Bharitya, who was the main speaker at the programme, explained various GST requirements in simple and practical terms. He emphasised that proper billing, maintaining accurate records and timely filing of GST returns are important not only for tax compliance but also for protecting businesses from avoidable complications.
The session focused on key areas including GST invoicing under the “Jago Grahak Jago” initiative, display of GSTIN at business premises, regular filing of GST returns and timely generation of e-Way Bills for consignments valued above ₹50,000, as highlighted in the campaign material displayed at the venue.
A major highlight of the programme was the open interaction between the department officials and local taxpayers. Members of the GST Circle Kangra team — Rajeev Kumar Jaswal, Ashok Kumar and Vishal Deep — were prominently present and responded to queries raised by taxpayers on various practical aspects of GST compliance.
The officials also clarified common doubts faced by traders and business owners in their day-to-day transactions, helping participants better understand their responsibilities under the GST framework.
Addressing the gathering, Joint Commissioner Rakesh Bharitya stressed that GST compliance should not be viewed merely as a government formality. Proper invoicing, transparent transactions and timely compliance can help businesses maintain better records and avoid unnecessary difficulties in the future.
The programme was particularly significant for local businesses as it provided them an opportunity to raise their concerns directly with senior tax officials and seek clarification on GST-related matters.
The initiative reflects the department’s effort to strengthen taxpayer awareness, voluntary compliance, transparency and revenue enhancement through direct engagement with the business community.
Local traders and taxpayers welcomed the initiative, saying that such interactive programmes help bridge the gap between the tax department and the business community by providing practical clarity on GST provisions.
