The third State-Level Swimming Championship, organized by the Himachal Pradesh Swimming Association, was inaugurated at The Lawrence School, Sanawar. The event saw the participation of around 250 swimmers from various districts across the state.
The championship was presided over by State Secretary of the Association, Ishan Akhtar. Vinay Dhiman, Deputy Director of Tourism & Civil Aviation, Himachal Pradesh, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Principal Ruchi Pradhan Dutta of The Lawrence School attended as the Special Guest. In keeping with Himachali tradition, both guests were honored with a Himachali cap, shawl, and memento by the organizers.
Addressing the young athletes, Chief Guest Vinay Dhiman emphasized that excelling in sports requires more than just skill. “A good player needs the right mindset and leadership qualities along with proficiency in the game,” he said, encouraging youth to aim for excellence and secure opportunities in government services through sports achievements.
State Secretary Ishan Akhtar highlighted that the competition features six different categories, with events in freestyle, backstroke, butterfly stroke, and breaststroke across distances of 25m, 50m, 100m, 200m, and 800m.
Technical officials including Diksha Sharma, Upasana Verma, Shoaib Khan, Lata Thakur, Narvada Sharma, Shivani Thakur, Ekla Chauhan, and Poonam Thakur were present to oversee the championship.
This championship not only showcases the swimming talent of Himachal Pradesh but also reinforces the importance of discipline, leadership, and sportsmanship among the youth.
