In a landmark decision, the Himachal Pradesh Cabinet has approved the Policy for Regularisation of Certain Encroachments on Government Land, 2026, bringing long-awaited relief to nearly 70 families in Gaggal.

These families, who have been living on shamlat land for almost seven decades, faced the threat of displacement due to the proposed expansion of Gaggal Airport. With the new policy, their homes and future now stand on firmer ground.

Newly elected Panchayat representatives — Pradhan Damini Kashyap, Up-Pradhan Ravindra Baba, and others — hailed the move as “life-changing” for residents whose future was clouded by uncertainty. They emphasized that without regularization, many families would have been rendered homeless.

Villagers gathered at the Azradha Krishna Mandir Meeting Hall to express gratitude to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and the state government. They noted that the policy aligns with Supreme Court directives and has rekindled hope of ownership rights over the land they have occupied for generations.

The announcement has sparked joy among Gaggal’s long-time residents, who now see a path toward legal recognition of their homes and security for their families.
