The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), District Mandi, marked its 56th Foundation Day by organising a 5-kilometre marathon titled “Run Against Chitta”, aimed at raising awareness about the growing threat of drug abuse and encouraging youth to adopt a healthy and positive lifestyle.
More than 100 participants took part in the event with enthusiasm, collectively reinforcing the message of a drug-free society. The marathon began from Seri Stage, passed through key routes of the town, and concluded at the same venue, drawing attention and support from the local community.
Chief Guest Deepak Sharma was accorded a traditional welcome with a Himachali cap, shawl, and garland. He also interacted with the participants and appreciated their efforts in supporting a socially relevant cause.
Addressing the gathering, Sharma described drug abuse as a serious challenge confronting society and emphasised that the role of youth is crucial in tackling this issue. He termed the initiative a meaningful step towards positive social change.
District NSUI President Anit Jaswal said the marathon was not merely a sporting event but a focused awareness campaign to keep young people away from substance abuse. He added that such initiatives would continue in the future to strengthen the movement against drugs.
The winners were awarded cash prizes of ₹3100, ₹2100, and ₹1100, respectively, while other participants were honoured with medals, certificates, and refreshments.
Among those present were Municipal Corporation councillors Yashkant Kashyap and Sanjay Sharma, former District Congress Committee Vice President Labh Singh, NSUI State Secretary Bhawani Thakur, athlete Chaman, and AFG Academy Managing Director Santosh.
The event concluded with the organisers expressing gratitude to all participants, supporters, and the administration for their cooperation.
The message echoed clearly throughout the programme: when youth take the lead, society moves towards meaningful transformation.
