Rare White Himalayan Tahr Spotted in Kugti Wildlife Sanctuary, Bharmour

A rare wildlife sighting has stirred excitement in Bharmour subdivision. Forest officials have reported spotting an extremely uncommon white Himalayan Tahr in the Dharol area of the Kugti Wildlife Sanctuary. Locally referred to as “Karath,” this unusual animal stands out because Himalayan Tahrs are typically brown or dark in color.

The appearance of a white Tahr is considered an extraordinary event, as such variations are extremely rare in the species. The discovery has prompted the Forest Department to increase surveillance in the area.

Divisional Forest Officer (Wildlife), Bharmour, Chamba, Kuldeep Jamwal confirmed the sighting and stated that the matter is under investigation. He explained that the department will examine how this rare species reached the sanctuary, its native habitat, and the regions where such variants are usually found.

A team of experts has been deployed to closely monitor the animal, ensuring necessary steps are taken for its protection and conservation. The sighting has generated significant interest among wildlife enthusiasts and conservationists, highlighting the ecological importance of the Kugti Wildlife Sanctuary.
