The groundwork for the proposed extension campus of IIT Mandi at Bhagotla in Palampur is set to begin within a week, with a survey to be conducted by a team from NIT Hamirpur. IIT Mandi has initiated the necessary action to move the project forward.
The site was inspected today by Chief Minister’s Principal Advisor (Innovation, Digital Technology and Governance) Gokul Butail, accompanied by IIT Mandi Director Prof. Laxmidhar Behera and senior officials from the Palampur administration. During the visit, Butail sought feedback from local authorities and issued directions to ensure smooth progress.
Prof. Behera confirmed that the NIT Hamirpur team will start the survey-related process within a week. Butail emphasized the importance of road connectivity to the site, directing officials to ensure unhindered transportation of construction materials.
Forest Clearance Status
Officials reported that forest clearance has already been obtained for 20 hectares of land, while clearance for an additional 30 hectares is still pending, with action underway.
Technical Review and Coordination
Other technical aspects of the project were reviewed during the inspection. Prof. Behera assured full cooperation from IIT Mandi, while administrative officials stressed the need for close coordination among departments.
