The police have formally begun investigating the d*eath of Pallavi, a student from Dharamshala. According to a press note issued by the IG Police, North Range Dharamshala, an FIR was registered at Dharamshala Police Station on January 1, 2026. The case has been filed under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 and the Himachal Pradesh Educational Institutions (Prohibition of Ragging) Act, 2009.
The complaint was lodged by Pallavi’s father, Vikram Kumar, alleging that his daughter was subjected to ragging, physical assault, and sexual harassment. Allegations also include inappropriate behavior by fellow students as well as a college professor.
Police stated that Pallavi’s health deteriorated following these incidents, and she underwent treatment at multiple hospitals. On December 26, 2025, she passed away at DMC Ludhiana during treatment.
The investigation is being led by the DSP Dharamshala. A police team has already reached Ludhiana to collect medical records and record statements from doctors. Authorities confirmed that the probe is still ongoing.
