Solan (Himachal Pradesh):

A powerful blast rocked a residential pocket near the Nalagarh police station in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh early on New Year’s Day, sending shockwaves through the area and triggering panic among residents.

The explosion, which occurred in a narrow lane close to the police station, shattered window panes of nearby buildings, including an Army hospital. Locals said the sound of the blast could be heard from a distance of nearly 400 to 500 metres.

Acting swiftly on receiving the information, a team from the Nalagarh police station rushed to the spot and completely sealed off the area. Barricades were placed on both sides of the lane as the police began a detailed investigation. The site remains cordoned off as authorities probe the incident from all angles.

Baddi SP Vinod Dhiman arrived at the scene along with senior officials, while a forensic team was called in from Shimla to collect evidence and examine the blast site. However, the exact cause of the explosion is still not clear.

Eyewitnesses recalled scenes of confusion and fear in the immediate aftermath. People sitting at nearby tea stalls said the sudden, deafening sound left them stunned, while migrant workers present close to the spot said the blast caused the ground to shake and large glass panes to shatter.

“There was a loud bang and for a moment we couldn’t see anything. Big window glasses broke all around,” a worker said, adding that no one knew what triggered the explosion. So far, no official statement has been issued by the SP or the district police administration regarding the incident.
