Senior BJP spokesperson Trilok Kapoor launched a sharp attack on the Congress-led Himachal Pradesh government, accusing Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of mishandling the recent Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) dispute in Shimla. Kapoor alleged that the government’s “unconstitutional and unprofessional” actions have crippled the state’s healthcare services.
“System Itself Has Become a Patient”
Kapoor said, “Today, Himachal’s entire system has itself become a patient, and the Chief Minister is the cause of its collapse. Patients are dying in the state’s largest hospital, attendants are running from pillar to post, and doctors are working under fear. Every government employee is haunted by the threat of dismissal, which is dangerous for any democratic setup.”
Violation of Rules
The BJP leader questioned why the government bypassed established CCS (CCA) Rules while taking action. “In pursuit of cheap popularity and applause, the Chief Minister ignored constitutional procedures. As a result, the state’s healthcare services have come to a standstill. Had the matter been handled professionally, the people of Himachal would not have faced this situation,” Kapoor said.
“Salt on the Wounds of the People”
Criticizing the government’s insensitivity, Kapoor remarked that while the state is struggling under the shadow of disaster management laws and collapsing health services, the Congress government is busy organizing carnivals and celebrations in Shimla and Dharamshala. “This is like rubbing salt into the wounds of suffering patients and distressed attendants,” he added.
BJP’s Warning
Kapoor demanded that the Chief Minister abandon what he described as a “dictatorial style of functioning” and adhere to democratic and constitutional norms. He warned that if healthcare services are not restored soon and the atmosphere of fear among employees is not addressed, the BJP will not hesitate to take to the streets in the interest of the public.
