Thousands of pensioners in Himachal Pradesh have raised their voice against the Congress-led Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government, accusing it of attempting to suppress their movement.

The protest, originally scheduled to be held at Zorawar Maidan on November 28, has now been shifted to the Police Ground, a move that BJP leader and Dharamshala MLA Sudhir Sharma termed as an attempt to “crush the elderly pensioners.”

Sudhir Sharma’s Statement

  • Sharma alleged that the government is afraid of the 14-point charter of demands, which includes issues raised by 18 different organizations.
  • He criticized the administration for not inviting pensioners for dialogue and said the venue shift would cause hardship to elderly participants.
  • “This is a clear sign of the government’s failure and desperation. The BJP stands firmly with the pensioners,” Sharma declared.

Dharamshala Politics

Sharma also mocked Chief Minister Sukhu’s recent statement about winning Dharamshala in upcoming elections, saying it had made him a subject of ridicule on social media.

Clock Tower Controversy

Highlighting civic neglect, Sharma pointed to the Sidhbari Clock Tower at the entrance of Tapovan Assembly, which currently shows four different times on its four clocks. He described it as a “white elephant” and a symbol of poor governance by the Congress administration.

“The Congress government has betrayed pensioners by shifting their protest venue from Zorawar Maidan to Police Ground. Even the Sidhbari Clock Tower, once a symbol of smart city aspirations, now reflects the Congress’s failures.”
