The University Institute of Technology (UIT), Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, hosted a one-day workshop titled “Design Thinking and Innovation” for school teachers on October 11, 2025. The event was funded and organized by the Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell (MIC-AICTE).
The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Balvir Singh Thakur, In-charge of the Computer Science Engineering Department at UIT, under the directorship of Prof. A.J. Singh.

Eminent experts from across India delivered insightful lectures on innovation in education. The speakers included:
- Prof. Ravi Poovaiah, IDC School of Design, IIT Bombay
- Ms. Rupa Chakravarty, Director-Education, Suncity Schools India and Advisor to the CBSE Board
- Dr. Ajanta Sen, Founder and Director of Jellow Lab, Design in India, and Solar Project
- Mr. Harish Sanduja, Director of Schools and IT, Seth Anandram Jaipuria Group of Educational Institutions
- Mr. Ashish Tripathi, Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell (MIC-AICTE)
The workshop focused on integrating design thinking into educational practices and fostering innovation among educators. Around 100 teachers from various schools across Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and New Delhi participated in the event.
The initiative aimed to empower educators with creative problem-solving tools and encourage experiential learning approaches aligned with the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
