DHARAMSHALA: A government school teacher has been arrested following allegations of sexual misconduct made by 24 female students in the Rajgarh area of Sirmaur district in Himachal Pradesh.

The accused, a Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) in mathematics at the Government Model Senior Secondary School, was arrested after students came forward with a written complaint accusing him of inappropriate physical contact and other forms of misconduct. The complaint, addressed to Principal Kanta Devi, was submitted last Friday and prompted immediate administrative and legal action.

The authorities have registered a case under Section 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 10 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Police confirmed that the accused is in custody and that an investigation is underway.

“The students, all from classes VIII to X, informed us through a written note that the teacher had been behaving inappropriately with them over time,” said the school principal. “The complaint was immediately referred to the school’s internal complaints committee for action. We also initiated counselling sessions for the affected students.”

Following the submission of the complaint, parents of the students were called for an urgent meeting the next day. Many of them were reportedly unaware of the true reason for the gathering until they arrived at the school.

“One of the girls broke down in front of me and confessed what had been happening,” shared the father of one of the students, struggling to hold back tears. “She had been too scared to tell us earlier.” School officials said that the students had remained silent out of fear and confusion, with some feeling ashamed or unsure of how to report the abuse. The matter only came to light after a few girls mustered the courage to speak collectively.

The police have assured that the case is being handled with sensitivity and support is being provided to the victims. Meanwhile, education department authorities have also been informed, and further departmental action is expected against the accused.
