Anurag Thakur leads BJP protest in Hamirpur, accuses Himachal govt of failing to deport illegal Pakistanis

Hamirpur: Former Union Minister and Member of Parliament Anurag Thakur led a BJP protest against the Himachal Pradesh government in Hamirpur on Monday (May 5, 2025), accusing the Congress regime of failing to identify and deport illegal Pakistani nationals from the state.

Anurag questioned the Congress silence despite clear directives from the Centre, asking, “Why has no action been taken even after the Union Government’s instructions? Is the Congress shielding illegal immigrants?”

The protest in Hamirpur was part of a coordinated statewide campaign by the BJP, with demonstrations held across various districts demanding immediate action.

Anurag emphasised that despite repeated warnings, not a single Pakistani national had been identified in Himachal Pradesh as of May 2, raising concerns over the Congress’ intent.
“Why are Congress-ruled states soft on illegal infiltrators?” he asked.

Linking terrorism and political apathy

Referring to the recent terror attack at Pahalgam in Jammu & Kashmir where several Hindus were brutally killed, Anurag noted the Centre’s firm response of scrapping the Indus Waters Treaty and ordering the deportation of illegal Pakistani nationals.

“While the Union Government is taking strong measures to ensure national security, Congress-ruled states are turning a blind eye,” he said.

Anurag also criticised Congress leaders for making statements sympathetic to Pakistan and demanded they clarify their position:
“The Congress must answer whether it stands with India or not?” he said.

Targets Congress on caste census

Accusing the Congress of double standards on social justice, Anurag recalled how the UPA government in 2011 conducted a census but evaded a caste-based count.
“Congress has always suppressed the backward classes’ rights. Even today, their stand on caste census is politically motivated,” he alleged.

Taking a dig at Rahul Gandhi, Anurag said: “He called the Bihar caste survey fake, despite his own party being in power there. The Congress practises politics, not governance.”
Earlier, while replying to questions by the media on the Waqf Board and the Shimla mosque issue, Anurag said, “The mindset and obstinacy of the Waqf Board have once again been exposed.

In the controversial Sanjauli mosque case, the verdict delivered by the Municipal Corporation Commissioner’s Court is a significant blow to the Waqf Board’s high-handedness and its illusion of being above the law. The court has categorically stated that the mosque is completely illegal and must be demolished under all circumstances.”

“Ironically, it was the Sanjauli Mosque Committee and the Waqf Board themselves who had sought time till May 3 to submit ownership documents. Yet, they failed to produce valid paper before the court. This incident is not isolated but reflects a larger pattern of illegal encroachments by the Waqf Board across the country, which must be addressed with seriousness and legal firmness,” said Anurag.
