Shimla: A shocking incident unfolded in Rampur subdivision of Shimla district in Himachal Pradesh where a 35-year-old man of Nepalese origin ended his life by jumping into Sutlej river.

The deceased has been identified as Lal Singh, a resident of Khorla under Uiya post office in Garekha tehsil of Gandaki district in Nepal.

Before taking the step, Lal Singh reportedly recorded a video and posted it on Facebook. In the video, he spoke about himself, though the exact content of his message remains unclear.

According to eyewitnesses, Lal Singh first jumped into the river but managed to swim back to the shore and survived. Upon receiving information, the police rushed to the spot. However, every time officers attempted to approach him, he threatened them with stones, preventing any rescue efforts.

As the tense standoff continued, hundreds of onlookers gathered on both sides of the river. Despite the large crowd, no one dared to intervene. Eventually, Lal Singh took a second plunge into the raging waters and disappeared.

Rampur DSP Naresh Sharma confirmed that the police had registered the case and launched a search operation for the body. Investigations are underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident.
