Dharamshala: In recognition of his dedication to public service, Congress leader Gokul Butail, who is Principal Adviser (IT & Innovation) to the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, was honoured at the Spring Carnival-2025 in Dharamshala.
The event celebrated his early political debut and exceptional skills, which have significantly contributed to the development and welfare of the state. His journey from a young political enthusiast to a seasoned leader has been inspiring, and his efforts continue to leave a lasting impact on Himachal Pradesh.
Gokul Butail’s current role carries the rank of Cabinet Minister. Since December 2022, he has played a crucial role in shaping the state’s technological and innovative strategies. His leadership and vision are steering Himachal Pradesh towards becoming a model state in terms of digital governance and innovation.
In addition to his role in the state government, Butail serves as the Managing Director of Infinitea Sports Club and Tea Garden Resorts, ventures that promote tourism and showcase the historic Kangra tea of the Himalayan region.
His entrepreneurial spirit is aimed at boosting the local economy and making the region a sought-after destination for both tourism and heritage enthusiasts.
An aerospace and mechanical engineer, Gokul Butail has been deeply involved in the Congress, contributing to its growth at the national level. He has been serving as the party’s national joint secretary since January 2019 where he leads the party’s data analytics cell.
Under his leadership, the digital membership and enrollment strategy of the Congress has undergone significant advancements.
Butail’s strategic brilliance was evident during his tenure as in-charge of the election control room for the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections and the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. His ability to manage the election war room, strategise data analytics and direct operations played a pivotal role in the party’s success.
His contributions as the national coordinator, co-founding the Data Analytics Department for the Congress in 2018, further cemented his reputation as a forward-thinking political strategist.
From 2014 to 2017, Butail served as an adviser to the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, focusing on integrating information technology within state government departments. His guidance laid the groundwork for many of the state’s current technological advancements.
