Named after Shri Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar (1894–1955), the first Director (now Director General) of CSIR, the tournament honors his legacy as one of India’s pioneering scientists. Established as a tribute to his contributions, SSBMT fosters unity, team spirit, leadership skills, and excellence among CSIR members. Initially organized by CSIR headquarters, it has evolved into a major Pan-India sports event held biennially at different CSIR laboratories.
The inaugural ceremony for the SSBMT (outdoor) finals will take place on 6th February 2025 at the CSIR-IHBT premises in Palampur. The tournament is expected to bring together CSIR scientists and sports enthusiasts, celebrating sportsmanship and camaraderie within the scientific community.
