In a shocking incident in Himachal Pradesh’s Parvati Valley, an elderly couple running a homestay and tea shop in the remote Rashol area of Kullu was attacked, resulting in the wife’s death and the husband’s hospitalization.
The Kullu police have registered a case, though details remain limited. Preliminary reports suggest that the couple, Gangi Devi (60) and Dhani Ram (65), were attacked late at night, allegedly by two tourists staying at their homestay.
Couple found in unconscious state

The incident came to light on Wednesday (January 8, 2025) morning when a local discovered the couple in an unconscious state. Gangi Devi was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital while Dhani Ram remains in critical condition. The woman’s body has been sent to the Kullu mortuary for post-mortem examination.
Fourth murder in state in 10 days
Kullu ASP Sanjeev Chauhan confirmed the incident and stated that the suspects fled the scene. A case under relevant sections has been registered and a police investigation is underway.
This incident marks the latest in a series of murders in Himachal Pradesh within the first 10 days of the year. Recent cases include a hotel manager’s murder in Dalhousie, a family dispute in Solan leading to a man’s death and a labourer killed over a mere Rs 40 in Hamirpur.
The spike in violent crimes has raised concerns among residents and officials alike, highlighting the need for stricter law enforcement in the region.
