Palampur: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has come under fire from the opposition BJP, this time over allegations of consuming a protected species during a recent visit to Tikker village in Kupvi, Chopal constituency. BJP state general secretary Trilok Kapoor, in a press statement issued on Saturday, accused CM Sukhu of violating the Wildlife Protection Act by consuming jungle fowl, a species protected under the law.

Kapoor referenced a viral video to support his claims, stating that the alleged act occurred during a picnic hosted by the chief minister and his entourage. “The jungle fowl is a protected species, and hunting or consuming it is a criminal offense under the Wildlife Protection Act. If this bird was indeed part of the CM’s dinner menu, will the government accept responsibility for this violation?” Kapoor questioned.

He further alleged that the incident reflects the disconnect between the government and the public’s struggles. “For the past two years, people have been grappling with the inefficiencies of this government, while the chief minister is busy enjoying picnics in the forests,” Kapoor added.

Kapoor emphasized that the Wildlife Protection Act enforces strict penalties for hunting or consuming protected animals and birds. He accused the government of failing to uphold the laws it claims to protect, further tarnishing its image.

The BJP leader also criticized the government for its mishandling of various issues, including delayed salaries for employees, scrutinizing minor expenses like samosa bills, proposing the sale of Himachal Bhavan, and allegedly failing to deliver on promises made to the public. “The Sukhu government has already faced ridicule across the country. Now, the inclusion of jungle fowl on the CM’s dinner menu has further damaged the reputation of Himachal Pradesh,” Kapoor said.

The accusations have sparked a political controversy, with the opposition demanding a response from the government on the alleged violation and its stance on the incident.
