New Delhi: Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri held a significant meeting with Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil in New Delhi, emphasizing the urgent need for funds to expedite water and irrigation projects in Himachal Pradesh.

Agnihotri highlighted the delay in fund disbursal under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). Despite an allocation of ₹916.53 crore for the current financial year, only ₹137.48 crore has been released so far, stalling ongoing projects. He urged Patil to release the first and second tranches of JJM funds to ensure timely completion of schemes. The Union Minister assured that funds would be released soon to address the issue.

The Deputy Chief Minister also discussed the state’s efforts to enhance irrigation facilities and sought liberal financial assistance from the Union Government. He requested approval for 67 winter water supply schemes, worth ₹517.16 crore, including vibrant village schemes aimed at providing consistent water supply to tribal areas. Patil assured that the proposals would be reviewed sympathetically.

Agnihotri expressed gratitude for the inclusion of the Phina Singh project under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY). He requested the release of ₹135 crore for the current financial year to accelerate the project. Additionally, he sought approval for two projects, Beet Area and Kuthlehar Constituency, worth ₹120.79 crore. Patil confirmed that sanction letters would be issued promptly, and fund allocation would follow soon.

The meeting also addressed the pending central assistance of ₹3.26 crore for three irrigation projects—SMI scheme Labrang Garden Colony in Kinnaur, LIS Barorti Mandap in Mandi, and LIS Sandhole in Mandi. Patil directed officials to resolve the matter promptly.

Furthermore, Agnihotri advocated for the approval of five sewerage projects under the Namami Gange program, including initiatives in Shimla, Solan, and Sirmaur districts. Patil assured a sympathetic review of these proposals.

Agnihotri’s focused approach underscores his commitment to securing critical resources for Himachal’s water and irrigation infrastructure, ensuring sustainable development and improved quality of life for its residents.
