Bilaspur: In a significant leap for healthcare in Himachal Pradesh, AIIMS Bilaspur has commenced kidney transplant services, positioning itself as a center of advanced medical care.
This development includes a state-of-the-art renal transplant ICU, constructed at a cost of INR 20 million, aiming to close a longstanding gap in regional kidney-related healthcare.
The new facility allows patients to receive specialized care within the state, reducing the need to seek transplants elsewhere.
Complementing this medical advancement is a pioneering drone service that will drastically reduce blood sample transport times to the Dharmapur lab.

Previously taking four to five hours by road, the transport duration will now be cut to just one hour with drones, enhancing the speed and efficiency of medical responses in emergencies.
AIIMS Bilaspur will also feature a multi-level critical care and emergency trauma block, an investment of INR 3.5 billion, equipped with modern trauma units and a helipad.
This facility is designed to enable rapid air evacuations and quick responses for critical trauma cases, a significant upgrade to emergency care access across Himachal’s challenging terrain.
To support families accompanying patients from remote areas, AIIMS Bilaspur is developing a rest house, estimated at INR 267.5 million. This rest facility aims to provide comfortable accommodation for long-term visitors, alleviating the burden on those traveling from distant regions for treatment.
