Himachal Pradesh received a significant boost on the occasion of Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh’s birthday as the central government sanctioned Rs 21 crore for crucial road repairs. The funds were approved by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, marking a major development for the state’s infrastructure.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) sanctioned Rs 21.05 crore for the repair and maintenance of the Chail Chowk-Pandoh and Mandi-Bajaura roads, both vital routes for the region. Minister Vikramaditya Singh expressed his gratitude to the Centre for the timely financial support, which would ensure smoother traffic flow and enhanced road safety in the state.
Major road development projects get push
The Public Works Department (PWD) had submitted a detailed assessment of the damage to the state’s roadways, amounting to Rs 24.17 crore. Following joint verification by the NHAI and other agencies, the estimated damage for the Chail Chowk-Pandoh road stood at Rs 9.16 crore. The Mandi-Kamand-Katoula-Bajaura alternative route, crucial for connecting various regions, saw damage estimates of Rs 12.75 crore.
These funds will be used for resurfacing the roads, constructing protective walls and installing safety barriers, all of which are essential for preventing landslides and ensuring safe vehicular movement. The repair works are expected to resolve the problems caused by the monsoons, which led to frequent road closures in the area.
Gadkari’s special gift for Himachal
Vikramaditya took to social media to thank Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for this crucial support, calling it a “birthday gift” for Himachal Pradesh. He highlighted that during his previous meeting with the minister, they had discussed these key infrastructure issues, leading to the approval of Rs 21 crore for road maintenance. He lauded the Centre’s swift action, emphasising that the funds would benefit local communities and tourists alike.
Development beyond political lines
In a statement to the press, Vikramaditya reiterated his commitment to working for the overall development of Himachal Pradesh, beyond party politics. “It is our collective responsibility to ensure that every corner of the state progresses. I will continue to focus on the equal development of all regions of Himachal,” he said.

Additional funds expected soon

He pointed out that the development of the state remained a top priority and efforts to secure further support from the Centre would continue.
