Mandi hospital introduces QR code system to end long queues for registration

MANDI: To streamline patient registration and eliminate long queues, the Zonal Hospital at Mandi has introduced a new QR code system. This initiative, currently on a trial basis, promises to significantly reduce waiting times at the registration counters.

Under the new system, patients can swiftly complete their registration by using the ABHA app on their mobile phones. Once the app is downloaded, patients need to create an account. At the hospital, they simply scan the QR code displayed at the registration counter using the ABHA app, which instantly generates a token number valid for one hour.

To finalise the registration, patients only need to provide their token number, their father’s name and the department they wish to visit. This streamlined process aims to save time and improve the overall efficiency of hospital services.

Medical Superintendent Dr DS Verma explained that this initiative was launched following instructions from Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan to address the issue of long waiting lines at the hospital. “If the trial proves successful, this new system will greatly expedite the registration process,” said Dr Verma.

“Previously, patients were required to provide extensive personal information, including name, age, gender, mobile number, address and the department they intended to visit, which was time-consuming. The QR code system simplifies this to just a few essential details, enabling quicker service.”

QR codes have been prominently placed at all registration counters. Patients and their attendants are encouraged to utilise this new facility to benefit from faster service. While the new system is being tested, the hospital will continue to offer the traditional registration process as well.

To accommodate the increased number of patients after holidays, additional registration services are now available from 9.30 am to 1.30 pm at a counter located behind the hospital, which was set up during the COVID-19 pandemic.
