Manali: A private bus carrying passengers skidded off the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway and got stuck precariously on the banks of the Beas river near Bahanu in Manali sub-division of Kullu district in Himachal Pradesh.
The accident caused injuries to 12 passengers, who were rushed to a nearby hospital. Initial reports indicated that the injuries were not severe.
The accident follows a series of natural disasters in the region. On Thursday, a cloudburst in Manali’s Solang Valley caused a flashflood, significantly affecting the area. The deluge forced the temporary closure of the Leh-Manali highway, which has since been reopened after 18 hours of disruption.
The flashflood also damaged three houses and brought large boulders onto the bridge over the Fozal stream, further impacting traffic and complicating rescue operations. The authorities have been assessing the situation and urging travellers to exercise caution while commuting in the affected areas.
