SPU Pro-VC Anupama meets Education Minister over fiscal issues

MANDI: Sardar Patel University (Mandi) Pro Vice-Chancellor Anupama Singh called on Education Minister Rohit Thakur in Shimla to discuss the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) and address pressing issues facing the university.
Anupama also met other high-ranking officials, including Director of Higher Education Amarjeet and Secretary of Education Rakesh Kanwar. One of the main topics of discussion was the budget for the 2024-25 academic session, which had been withheld.
The Pro Vice-Chancellor received assurances from officials that the budget would be released shortly, which is expected to provide a much-needed boost to the university’s operations and development plans.
The meeting also focused on the implementation of the NEP, a transformative policy aimed at overhauling the educational framework in India. Discussions included the initiation of new courses at SPU, which are seen as crucial for aligning the university’s offerings with contemporary educational standards and industry requirements.
Other significant issues addressed included the levy charges imposed by Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) and the prolonged vacancy of key administrative positions such as the Registrar and Finance Officer at the SPU. The lack of these critical roles has been a considerable challenge for the university’s administration, affecting its overall efficiency and governance.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with all officials assuring Anupama of their full cooperation in resolving the university’s issues. She expressed optimism about the forthcoming budget release and the support pledged for the NEP implementation and other institutional needs.
The Pro Vice-Chancellor was assured that all unresolved issues would be discussed with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to seek further guidance and support. This step is expected to bring additional momentum to addressing the university’s challenges.
Anupama also paid a courtesy visit to Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri. The Deputy CM reiterated his commitment to supporting the SPU and assured full cooperation in addressing the university’s matters. The visit underscores the administration’s dedication to enhancing the educational landscape of the region.
