Vigilance seizes record at Nerchowk Municipal Council office over tender ‘scam’

Municipal Council

MANDI: A Himachal Pradesh Vigilance Bureau team raided the Nerchowk Municipal Council office on Wednesday evening after receiving a complaint regarding irregularities in the tendering process. The raid took place at around 4.30 pm where the Vigilance officials conducted a thorough inspection of the council’s records and questioned the staff on duty.

The raid followed a formal complaint lodged by a local resident, accusing the Municipal Council of serious irregularities in its tendering procedures. The complaint alleged that the tendering process was fraught with violations of rules and regulations. Acting promptly, the Vigilance team arrived at the office and began their investigation by scrutinising the ongoing tender records.

According to sources, the Vigilance team is likely to seize all related documents to assess whether due procedures were followed. The investigation will determine whether all formalities were completed and if the tenders were awarded in a lawful and transparent manner.

Vigilance may seize records

The investigation is expected to reveal whether the tender allocation adhered to established protocols and government guidelines. Should the need arise, Vigilance officials are prepared to take the relevant records into their possession for a more detailed investigation. Further steps will be taken based on the findings of this preliminary inquiry.

Confirming the raid, DSP (Vigilance-Mandi) Priyank Gupta stated, “The investigation has been initiated based on a complaint received regarding alleged irregularities in the tender process at the Nerchowk Municipal Council. The inquiry is progressing as per protocol.”

Previous raid at Jal Shakti Department

This is not the first such action by the Vigilance department. A few days ago, a similar raid was conducted at the divisional office of the Jal Shakti Department in Baggi, where the tendering process was also under scrutiny.

Following this, key documents were seized, and investigations are still ongoing. In a related development, the state government has already transferred the Executive Engineer stationed at Baggi, shifting him to the headquarters in Shimla with immediate effect.
