With BJP MP from Hamirpur Anurag Thakur failing to make it to the Narendra Modi government 3.0, the buzz is that the firebrand leader could stage an entry into Himachal Pradesh politics.

With Himachal Pradesh having only four Lok Sabha seats, Anurag, who has previously served as the Union Minister twice, found himself out of the Modi cabinet as BJP president JP Nadda took oath as the central minister.

The possibility of Anurag assuming a significant role within the party organisation is under discussion, given Himachal’s modest representation and the necessity of accommodating ministers from coalition partners. It remains a point of pride for Himachal Pradesh that in all three tenures of the Modi government, the state has been represented by a Union Minister.

Anurag, who previously held the portfolios of Sports and Information Broadcasting Minister and Minister of State for Finance, has earned praise for his performance in both roles. There’s speculation that he may be accorded importance in future cabinet expansions. Given his high profile and track record, it’s anticipated that he will be entrusted with a substantial responsibility.

Additionally, there’s talk of actress Kangana Ranaut, elected MP from Mandi, being assigned a role within the organisation, indicating potential plans by the BJP central leadership to reinvigorate Himachal politics. Anurag, who has primarily operated at the national level, may see increased involvement in Himachal politics. His leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and consistent electoral victories from Hamirpur have solidified his position within the BJP.

During a public meeting at Amb in Una recently, Home Minister Amit Shah had lauded Anurag’s contributions, highlighting his effectiveness in mobilising youth support for the BJP. Shah emphasised the unparalleled dedication and leadership qualities displayed by Anurag Thakur, indicating continued support and admiration within the party ranks.
