A religious outfit of Mandi, Dharam Sangh Bhoothnath Mandir, has called for a massive protest rally in Mandi city on December 19 (2024) to protest the ongoing violence against Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh.
The move comes after a series of brutal attacks on Hindu temples, homes and businesses in Bangladesh, sparking outrage and concern among the Hindu community in India.
The atrocities, which have been widely condemned, include the destruction of religious properties, physical assaults and the displacement of hundreds of Hindu families. The violence has stirred strong reactions among Hindus in India, who are increasingly alarmed by the lack of action from both the Bangladesh government and the international community.
Speaking about the situation, Neeraj Handa, the coordinator of Dharam Sangh, said, “The recent attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh are a clear violation of human rights. It is time for the global community to raise their voice against such atrocities. We, as a community, cannot stay silent anymore.”
The protest rally aims to highlight the sufferings of minorities in Bangladesh and demand justice. The Dharam Sangh has appealed to Hindus and other like-minded individuals to join the rally in a united show of strength. The organisation is also warning that if the current trend of persecution continues unchecked, Hindus may face similar threats in their own homeland.
Bhim Chand Saroch, president of Dharam Sangh, said, “If we do not take action now, we risk finding ourselves in a position where even Hindus in India may face insecurity. The situation in Bangladesh is a wake-up call for all of us to come together and protect our community.”
The call for unity was echoed by senior members of the Dharam Sangh during a meeting held on December 6. Senior vice-president Harish Vaidya, chief adviser Dr Om Raj Sharma and other executive members, including Secretary Gyan Chand Saini, treasurer Murari Lal Sharma and vice-president RK Sharma, expressed their support for the rally and reaffirmed their commitment to fighting for the rights of Hindus and other oppressed minorities.
The rally, which is expected to draw significant participation, will also send a strong message of solidarity to the minority communities in Bangladesh. The Dharam Sangh has emphasised that this protest is not just a local issue but part of a broader movement to ensure the safety and dignity of Hindus worldwide.
The meeting concluded with a unanimous agreement that the time for passive observation is over. “We must stand up for the rights of Hindus and show the world that we will not tolerate the oppression of our people,” said Dr Om Raj Sharma.
