The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Chandigarh has registered FIRs numbered 33 and 34 against Vishaldeep, the Assistant Director of the Shimla Enforcement Directorate (ED), for allegedly demanding a bribe of ₹2.5 crore.
The case involves educational institution operators in Himachal Pradesh linked to a money laundering probe. As part of the investigation, CBI officials have arrested DSP Balbir Singh, who was presented in court and remanded for one day.

Accusations of demanding commission

The allegations took a complex turn when Vishaldeep accused DSP Balbir Singh of demanding a 10% commission from the bribe amount. Vishaldeep had earlier submitted a written complaint to the CBI Director and other officials, alleging the DSP’s involvement, which led to immediate action.
In addition to Vishaldeep, his brother Vikasdeep and an associate, Neeraj, were also arrested. During the investigation, the CBI recovered approximately ₹1.10 crore from the accused.
The case stems from claims that Vishaldeep and his accomplices solicited ₹2.5 crore from operators of educational institutions.

Vishaldeep’s allegations against CBI DSP

Before being taken into custody, Vishaldeep filed a detailed 15-page complaint on January 3 to the CBI Director. He alleged that DSP Balbir Singh and two other individuals who lodged complaints against him were complicit in instigating him to demand bribes.
According to Vishaldeep, the DSP repeatedly contacted him, including meetings in Mohali and on Shimla’s Mall Road, urging him to extract money from the educational institution operators and demanding a 10% cut of the bribe amount.

Interrogation and health complications

Vishaldeep was interrogated extensively during his remand, during which he reiterated his claims of being falsely implicated by the DSP. Following this, the CBI summoned DSP Balbir Singh for questioning. While the DSP denied all allegations, sources revealed that evidence about the alleged commission demand was presented during the interrogation.
The DSP’s health deteriorated when confronted with this evidence, prompting the CBI team to rush him to the Sector 32 hospital for medical attention.
