Rocky Mittal, a former publicity adviser to the Himachal Pradesh government and a controversial figure known for singing praises of top leaders from both the Congress and BJP, finds himself embroiled in a gangrape case registered in Kasauli.
Mittal, who switched political allegiances to the Congress just 10 days before the Haryana Assembly elections in 2024, earlier sang promotional songs for Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the 2014 general election.
Mittal’s political journey has been tumultuous. Disenchanted with the BJP after falling out with Union Minister and former Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Mittal joined the Congress on August 26, 2024, sharing the stage with Randeep Surjewala’s son Aditya Surjewala.
During his induction, Mittal performed a self-composed song seeking forgiveness from Rahul Gandhi, titled “Thokar Maine Khayi, Rahul Mere Bhai”.
Month on, no arrests yet in case
The gangrape case, registered over a month ago at the Kasauli police station, has raised concerns as no arrests have been made so far.
This is despite the victim’s identification of the crime scene and police seizure of hotel records. Sources said obtaining old CCTV footage had proven challenging, adding to investigative delays.
The case has also sparked political controversy as the other accused, Mohan Lal Badoli, is the Haryana BJP president. Badoli has called the allegations “baseless and a political conspiracy against him”.
Rocky Mittal’s past controversies
This is not Mittal’s first brush with the law. In 2015, he was accused of misbehaving with a judge on the Kaithal-Jind road bypass, allegedly assaulting the judge and forcibly removing the blue beacon from their vehicle.
The incident led to his arrest, though he was later released on bail. Mittal has denied any involvement in the Kasauli incident, claiming it to be a political conspiracy orchestrated by BJP leaders to unseat state party president Mohan Lal Badoli.
“I have left the BJP long ago. I don’t know the girl or any such incident. This is a ploy to defame me,” he stated. Mittal has demanded narco tests for all involved and a CBI investigation to uncover the truth.
