New Delhi:
Lok Sabha MP from Mayiladuthurai in Tamil Nadu, R Sudha, became the latest victim of chain snatching in Delhi when a miscreant on a two-wheeler snatched her gold chain during an early morning walk near the Poland Embassy in Chanakyapuri, an area known for its tight security due to the presence of foreign missions.
The incident took place around 6.15 am on Monday (August 4, 2025) while the MP was accompanied by fellow Rajya Sabha member Rajathi. A man, wearing a helmet and riding a Scooty, approached them from the front and without warning, yanked the gold chain from Sudha’s neck before speeding away.
MP says didn’t expect it as snatcher was riding slowly
Narrating the ordeal in a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Sudha said the attacker seemed non-threatening at first. “He wasn’t speeding. I didn’t suspect anything. But as he grabbed my chain, I felt a sharp pull that left injuries on my neck. I was barely able to maintain balance,” she recounted.

The two MPs raised the alarm and flagged down a police patrol vehicle soon after, but were told to lodge a formal complaint at the nearest station.
Security Concerns in VIP heart of Delhi
The location of the incident has sparked alarm over the rising audacity of criminals in the capital. Chanakyapuri houses several embassies and is patrolled routinely, yet the attack went unchecked.
Sudha, visibly shaken, questioned the state of women’s safety in Delhi. “If a Member of Parliament can be targeted in such a supposedly secure zone, what hope is there for ordinary women in the city or the country?” she said.
A complaint has been formally registered and the Delhi Police say a CCTV-based investigation is underway. The authorities are scanning footage from nearby cameras to track the suspect and the vehicle. The MP has urged the Home Ministry and local police to prioritise the case and ensure the criminal is caught swiftly to send a strong message.
