The brutal d*eath of Mamta, a young woman from Sarkaghat who succumbed to severe burns after an acid attack, has evoked widespread outrage and grief across the state. Calling the incident a disgrace to humanity and an extremely painful reflection of rising violence against women, youth leader and former state executive of the Youth Congress has expressed deep shock and sympathy for the bereaved family.
In a significant humanitarian gesture, the leader announced that the complete educational expenses of Mamta’s two children — a son and a daughter — will be personally borne by him from school through college. He said this support is intended to ensure that the children do not suffer further after losing their mother to such a horrific crime.
“Mamta has left behind two young children. Their future must not be allowed to collapse because of this tragedy. I will take full responsibility for their education so they can stand independently and build dignified lives,” he said.
Appeal to the State Government for Institutional Support
He urged the Chief Minister and the Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment to include both children under the “Children of the State — Sukha Aashray Yojana”, a program designed to provide long-term support for vulnerable children in education, health, and daily care.
According to him, enrollment under this scheme would ensure that the children do not have to struggle for basic necessities in the coming years.
Demand for Fast-Track Court and Strict Punishment
Calling for immediate and uncompromising legal action, he demanded that the case be transferred to a fast-track court.
“There should be no delay in justice. A swift and exemplary judgment is necessary to deliver justice to the family and send a strong message to society that such barbaric acts will not be tolerated,” he stated.
He also appealed to the administration to take urgent and sensitive measures to secure the safety and long-term well-being of the children.
Final Call for Action
The tragic incident has once again exposed deep-rooted issues of domestic violence and gender-based brutality. Residents across the region are demanding strict accountability and strong policy intervention to prevent such crimes in the future.
