Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu arrived in Dharamshala on Tuesday ahead of the state assembly’s winter session and asked the Opposition to engage in issue-based, constructive debate rather than stage disruptive walkouts.
Speaking to reporters on arrival, Sukhu said the government was fully prepared for the winter sojourn and welcomed genuine, fact-based scrutiny of its work. He urged Opposition members to “raise issues on facts and logic” and not use theatrical walkouts to seek media attention, warning that such tactics undermine the legislative process and public interest.
On a question about the Opposition leadership’s conduct, Sukhu accused certain BJP MLAs of conspiring to create confusion around the all-party meeting and said that the absence of Opposition Leader Jai Ram Thakur from the meeting — without sending a replacement — breached the norms of session preparation. He called on all sides to respect institutional procedures so that the house can focus on governance, disaster relief and development priorities.
the eight-day winter session at Tapovan, Dharamshala, will begin on November 26 and will include sittings reserved for non-official business and several days for detailed questioning on subjects such as monsoon relief, infrastructure restoration, law and order and education. The government has indicated it will press ahead with its development agenda while being open to substantive debate.
