Himachal Pradesh Public Works Department (PWD) Minister and senior Congress leader Vikramaditya Singh while talking to media in Shimla today launched a scathing attack on BJP MP and Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, accusing her of neglecting her parliamentary duties and remaining largely absent from her constituency, Mandi.
“Madam has been missing from Himachal. Even as an elected representative, she does not have time to attend crucial DISHA (District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee) meetings,” Singh remarked.
“Only Two Visits to Himachal After Elections”
The PWD Minister alleged that Kangana has only made two public appearances in the state since winning the Lok Sabha elections—once for the inauguration of her private café in Manali and another time for an official meeting.
“Even the most essential meetings regarding development projects have been ignored by her. As an MP, she must fulfill her responsibilities and be accountable to the people who elected her,” he stated.
Delay in DISHA Committee Formation Raises Questions
Singh further criticized the delay in forming the DISHA committee in Mandi, which took nearly 11 months after the elections.
“The development trajectory of any Lok Sabha constituency is shaped by DISHA committees, and the meetings are chaired by the local MP. The Mandi parliamentary seat includes Mandi, Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, and the Rampur Assembly segment of Shimla. The MP is responsible for overseeing development initiatives and deciding the allocation of MPLAD (Member of Parliament Local Area Development) funds. But in Mandi, this crucial process has suffered due to the MP’s inaction,” he explained.
“What Has Kangana Done for Himachal?”
Raising serious concerns over Kangana’s commitment to her constituency, Singh questioned her contributions in Parliament.
“How many times has she raised issues concerning Himachal Pradesh in Parliament? What concrete steps has she taken for the development of Mandi? The people of the region have a right to know whether their representative is genuinely working for them or only appearing during election time,” he asserted.
On the Waqf Amendment Bill
Singh also addressed the ongoing debate over the Waqf Amendment Bill, emphasizing that Congress and other opposition parties have voiced their concerns openly.
“Reforms are necessary, but they must be implemented with transparency. The bill contains several contradictions, and the government must seriously consider the issues raised by the opposition,” he said.
“Jai Ram Thakur Has Selective Amnesia”
Taking a dig at former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, Singh remarked that he appears to be suffering from “selective amnesia.”
“Just a few days ago, as PWD Minister, I presented a detailed report on developmental projects in the Assembly. Every state receives funds for various schemes, but Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu is right in saying that Himachal has received no financial aid for disaster relief. While we acknowledge the assistance given for other purposes, it is a fact that not a single rupee has been allocated for disaster recovery in the state,” Singh concluded.
With growing concerns over parliamentary accountability, Singh’s remarks have reignited the debate over whether celebrities entering politics are truly dedicated to public service or merely using their positions as status symbols. All eyes are now on MP Kangana Ranaut for her response.
