SHIMLA:
US President Donald Trump issued a stern warning to Iran’s leadership on Sunday, suggesting that continued aggression could lead to regime change, following American airstrikes on key Iranian nuclear facilities.

Trump’s remarks come as Iran supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei vowed retaliation, condemning the US strikes as a “cowardly act of war”. Iranian state media reported widespread damage to several sensitive nuclear development sites, though officials have yet to confirm the full extent of the impact.

In a statement posted on his social media platform, Trump accused Tehran of destabilising the region and warned that “the days of unchecked provocation are over”. He said, “If the Iranian regime continues down this path, it may not survive the consequences.”

Tensions flared after what US defence officials described as “precision strikes” targeting Iranian infrastructure believed to be tied to uranium enrichment. The Pentagon has not officially confirmed the operation, but sources familiar with the matter indicated it was in response to intelligence suggesting an imminent threat to American assets in the region.

In a fiery televised speech, Khamenei denounced the United States and pledged a “decisive response.” “We will not allow this aggression to go unanswered,” he declared, calling on Iran’s military forces to be prepared for “strategic retaliation.”

International observers have expressed concern over the rapidly deteriorating relations between Washington and Tehran, warning that further escalation could lead to broader conflict in the Middle East. The UN Security Council has called for an emergency session to address the crisis.
