MLA Ashish Butail and others offered floral tributes before the martyr’s statue

On the birth anniversary of Himachal Pradesh’s illustrious son and the country’s first Param Vir Chakra awardee, Major Somnath Sharma, tributes were paid to him today in Palampur. MLA Ashish Butail offered flowers at the statue of martyr Major Somnath Sharma and bowed to him on behalf of a grateful nation. Accompanying him, Major Somnath Sharma’s niece, Radhika Shaunik, also paid floral tributes, remembering the valour of her illustrious ancestor.

MLA Ashish Butail said that the supreme sacrifice of Major Somnath Sharma is a matter of pride not only for Palampur and Himachal Pradesh but for the entire nation. He added that future generations should draw inspiration from his indomitable courage and patriotism.
On the occasion, Mayor of the Municipal Corporation Gopal Nag, Deputy Mayor Raj Kumar, and councillors also paid their respects to the martyr and reaffirmed their commitment to preserving his memory as a heritage of the city.
At the administrative level, Municipal Commissioner Netra Meti, SDM Palampur Dr. O.P. Yadav, and Tehsildar Sajan Bagga also offered garlands at the statue of the brave soldier and paid their tributes. All recalled the indomitable courage of Major Somnath Sharma, who laid down his life while defending the Srinagar airfield during the 1947 India–Pakistan war.
