A tragic incident unfolded in the remote Nagdal region near Quarsi-Holii in Chamba district, Himachal Pradesh, where a local trekker lost his life despite extensive rescue efforts.

The deceased has been identified as Rahul Kumar, son of Jeet Singh, a resident of Basodhan village, under Rathiyar post office, Chamba tehsil and district. Rahul had embarked on a trekking expedition towards Nagdal but became stranded in the rugged terrain. His condition deteriorated rapidly—he was unable to walk and experienced severe breathing difficulties.

Local shepherds discovered Rahul in distress and immediately alerted the authorities. In response, the district administration dispatched NDRF and other rescue teams to the site. After a strenuous operation, Rahul was evacuated and brought to the Holii Community Health Centre on Tuesday, where he received initial medical treatment.

Due to his worsening condition, Rahul was referred to Chamba Medical College. His family opted for an airlift via helicopter, and he was landed at the NHPC helipad in Karian, where he was given emergency care at the NHPC hospital. However, while en route to the medical college, Rahul succumbed to his condition.

Upon arrival at the medical college, doctors officially declared him d*ead.

Speaking on the incident, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Vipin Thakur confirmed:

“The patient was brought in a critical condition. His health deteriorated further during the airlift, and unfortunately, he passed away before reaching Chamba.”
