Deputy Commissioner (DC) Chamba, Mukesh Repaswal, has directed officials to take effective and immediate steps to strengthen tourism activities at Taleru Lake and nearby villages Palei and Tipri.
Speaking at a review meeting held at the Taleru tourist site, the DC emphasized the need to involve local youth in tourism-related activities. He said this would not only enhance facilities for visitors but also create direct and indirect self-employment opportunities for residents.
Key Initiatives Announced
- Jetty Development: Work on upgrading the jetty at Taleru is already in progress.
- Boating Facilities: Dockyards will be established to streamline boating activities between Taleru and villages Palei and Tipri, ensuring safe operations and proper berthing of boats.
- Infrastructure Improvements: Toilets, restaurants, and other amenities have been repaired by the Block Development Officer (BDO) Salooni. Parking space for around 20 vehicles has also been developed, with additional facilities nearing completion.
- Clean Tourism Drive: Strict ban on plastic use at the site, along with strengthened cleanliness and monitoring measures.
Vision for the Future
Repaswal stated that continuous efforts will be made to develop Taleru as a major tourist destination in Chamba district, making it more attractive and convenient for visitors.
Other Reviews Conducted
During the meeting, the DC also reviewed progress on several developmental schemes, including:
- Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) housing projects
- Shelter arrangements for disaster-affected families
- MGNREGA job card e-KYC and Aadhaar linking
- Declaring identified public places as tobacco-free zones
