Three-Day Special Training on Evidence Collection and Forensic Investigation Begins in Nurpur Police District

To strengthen the scientific and judicial accuracy of criminal investigations, a three-day special training program on “Evidence Collection, Preservation and Forwarding to Forensic Science Laboratories” commenced today at the office of the Superintendent of Police, Nurpur.

The training is being organized by the Directorate of Forensic Services (DFS), Junga, Shimla Hills, for investigating officers (IOs) of District Una and Police District Nurpur. The program is being conducted under the guidance of Dr. Meenakshi Mahajan, Director, Forensic Services, Himachal Pradesh.

Inaugural Session

The program was formally inaugurated by Shri Kulbhushan Verma (HPS), Superintendent of Police, Nurpur Police District. On the occasion, Shri Dharm Chand Verma (HPS), Additional Superintendent of Police, Nurpur, and Shri Naseeb Singh Patial, Assistant Director, DFS Junga, were present as special guests.

Training Objectives

The primary aim of the program is to enhance the knowledge and practical skills of police officers so that crime scenes can be managed with scientific precision. Key focus areas include:

  • Scientific Evidence Management: Modern techniques for collecting evidence from crime scenes.
  • Preservation of Evidence: Preventing contamination of biological, chemical, and ballistic evidence.
  • Legal Procedures: Proper packaging, labeling, and preparation of forwarding letters for dispatch to forensic laboratories.

Expert Guidance

Over the course of three days (March 16–18, 2026), experts from DFS Junga, RFSL Dharamshala, and DFU Nurpur will deliver lectures and conduct practical demonstrations. Special emphasis will be placed on handling and documenting trace evidence.

The training is designed to ensure that every piece of evidence collected by officers meets scientific and judicial standards, thereby strengthening the prosecution process and ensuring strict punishment for offenders.
