Tension has been simmering in Palampur town of Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh where a youth allegedly attacked a college girl with a sharp weapon at the bus stand on Saturday (April 20, 2024) evening, injuring her grievously.
People belonging to the girl’s village and other residents on Sunday gathered outside the Palampur police station and demanded death penalty for the youth, who belongs to Massal area of Kangra district.
The youth allegedly rained about 10 blows on the victim with the weapon before being overpowered by a few passengers and passersby and handed over to the police. The girl suffered deep wounds on her body. She was rushed to Tanda Medical College (TMC) in a critical condition from where she was referred to PGI-Chandigarh.
A massive crowd assembled on the spot and demanded the custody of the attacker. However, the police managed to take him to the local police station. Later, a huge crowd assembled outside the police station and demanded action against the culprit.
A police officer said that the youth had been chasing the girl since morning. Earlier, he also visited her college. As soon as the girl, after her classes, arrived at the bus stand to board a bus for her native Rajpur village, the youth attacked her multiple times with a ‘darat’ on the staircase of the bus stand.
A doctor who attended to the victim at the local civil hospital said the girl had suffered deep wounds on her head and her fingers had also got cut in her attempts to save herself.
