Dharamshala: On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, The Newz Radar brings the inspiring story of Poonam Bhardwaj – a celebrated singer of Himachal Pradesh, a dedicated teacher and a loving mother.
Her journey from the rural landscapes of Chamba district to the limelight of stage performances reflects not just talent but also resilience and wisdom.
Life was never easy for Poonam Bhardwaj. She lost her father at the tender age of 11, while studying in Class VI. With limited facilities in her hometown, the tragedy could have broken her spirit.
But with the unwavering support of her mother, she completed her education in government schools of Chamba and later pursued a Master’s degree from Himachal Pradesh University.
During this phase, her married life also began and with it came the responsibility of balancing home, career and her passion for singing.
Blessed with a melodious voice and natural beauty, she received offers to participate in beauty pageants. However, she chose not to walk that path.
Instead, she embraced the noble profession of teaching and joined the DAV Group of Schools, where she continues to guide and inspire students.
Music, however, never left her side. Poonam Bhardwaj carved a space for herself as a performing artiste, bringing Himachal’s rich cultural and folk heritage alive on stage.
Whether it is her soulful singing or her commanding stage presence, she has become a household name for those who admire art rooted in tradition.
Above all, Poonam Bhardwaj values her role as a mother. Her ability to balance the stage, the classroom, and her home reflects a rare harmony. She is not just an example of beauty, talent and wisdom, but also of determination and inner strength.
On this Teachers’ Day, her life sends out a profound message – that true education lies not only in books but also in the art of balancing responsibilities, nurturing talent, and carrying forward the positive spirit of our ancestors.
