Jagori Rural Charitable Trust, an NGO located at Rakkar village near Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh, will be organising four full-day thematic art workshops at Jagori campus from April 8 to 11 (2025).
Named Swara Mountain Arts Festival, the fourth edition of the event will be themed on “Rise for the Dancing Mother Earth & the Harmony of Five Elements”.
The Newz Radar, the leading English digital platform of Himachal Pradesh, will be the media partner for the festival.
The first day will feature a workshop on clown theatre by Sukhmani Kohli, a theatre and clown practitioner for 18 years. Sukhmani is the director of Purple Mangoes, a group of clown performers and facilitators.
She has taught clowning in institutions like National School of Drama in Tripura and Srishti Institute of Design in Bengaluru.
The next will be a music appreciation workshop on Indian Raaga music, which will be taken care of by tabla and Pakhawaj player Neeraj Dholakia and vocalist Palash Dholakia. Neeraj has 20 years of experience and Palash 12 years of experience.
Then there will be a session on ‘The Yangshak Movement: Exploring the Art, Philosophy and the Fire Within’. It will be presided over by Surjit Nongmeikapam, who is the artistic director of Nacham Arts Foundation. Nongmeikapam is an award-winning artist who has performed in several countries.
The fourth session will be titled ‘Sacred Art of Tibet: Thangka Art for Beginners’, which will be presided over Tsering Norbu, who is a novice monk with formal training in Buddhist art. Norbu has learnt the art from the Institute of Tibetan Thangka Art in Dharamshala.
The venue for the workshop will be Jagori campus of the Jagori Rural Charitable Trust at Rakkar village near Dharamshala. The timings for the workshops will be from 9 am to 5 pm. There will be ‘Open Gate Evenings’ from 5.30 pm to 7 pm. The event finale will be conducted at the Dharamshala college auditorium on April 12, 2025.
