SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu left for Hyderabad on Wednesday (December 6, 2023), afternoon to attend the swearing-in ceremony of his Telangana Congress chief and CM-designate Revanth Reddy. The Congress has ascended to power for the first time in the southern state since its formation.

The swearing-in ceremony, scheduled for Thursday (December 7), will witness the formal induction of Revanth Reddy as the Chief Minister of Telangana. The Congress secured a majority in the recent Telangana Assembly elections, winning 64 of the 119 seats. The victory ended the 10-year reign of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (TRS), led by outgoing Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

In the five-state Assembly elections, the BJP emerged victorious in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. Mizoram saw the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) claiming power, while in Telangana, the Congress triumphed over the TRS.

The Chief Minister’s Office confirmed Chief Minister Sukhu’s participation in the swearing-in ceremony in Hyderabad. The Congress high command has chosen Revanth Reddy, Member of Parliament from Malkajgiri, for the Chief Minister’s post. Known for his vocal criticism of the outgoing Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy assumed the role of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president in June 2021, succeeding N Uttam Kumar Reddy.

The ceremony is anticipated to be a significant event, symbolising a political shift in Telangana, and it is expected to be attended by prominent political figures and dignitaries from various parts of the country. Revanth Reddy is poised to take the oath of office on Thursday, marking the beginning of a new era for the Congress in the state.
