State-Level Men’s Boxing Championship Kicks Off at Paras School, Bhawarna

The HP State Elite Men’s Boxing Championship 2025 began today at Paras Public School, Bhawarna, with Palampur Mayor Gopal Nag inaugurating the event by lighting a lamp before the idol of Goddess Saraswati.

The opening ceremony was attended by school director Mahesh Chandra Katoch, Principal Neelam Rana, and several dignitaries. Around 150 boxers from across Himachal Pradesh will showcase their talent during the three-day competition, scheduled from December 12 to 14. Participants include athletes aged between 20 and 40, representing both state and national levels.

Mayor Gopal Nag congratulated the school management for hosting such a prestigious event, emphasizing that sports play a vital role in the holistic development of individuals. He assured the Himachal Pradesh Boxing Association that discussions would soon be held to promote boxing in Palampur. He also announced a contribution of ₹11,000 to support the successful organization of the championship.

The tournament promises thrilling bouts, with renowned names such as Olympian Ashish Chaudhary and national silver medalist Avinash Jamwal stepping into the ring. The judging panel includes S.K. Shandil, Secretary of HP Boxing Association, who is serving as an international referee.

Key supporters of the event include Paras Public School Director Mahesh Chandra Katoch, Principal Neelam Rana, District Boxing Association President Narendra Gaur, General Secretary Kailash, Senior Vice President Manu Sood, Press Secretary Ashok Rana, retired Principal Mahesh Nag, along with school staff, players, and parents.

The competition is further strengthened by the presence of three-star national referees Kailash Sharma and Naveen Rana, along with 20–25 coaches offering their expertise. District Boxing Association Press Secretary Ashok Rana highlighted that the event was made possible through the dedicated efforts of Director Mahesh Chandra Katoch, who remains committed to providing athletes with an excellent platform and facilities.
