St Francis Xavier’s Convent School-Mandi celebrates 78th Independence Day with patriotic fervour

MANDI: St Francis Xavier’s Convent School marked the 78th Independence Day with a grand celebration infused with a deep sense of patriotism. The event was graced by the presence of Lieutenant Colonel Manoj Gupta, Lieutenant Praveen Karmar, Major Abhinav Rawat and Major Abhijeet Singh, who, along with a contingent of 40 soldiers, added a special significance to the occasion.

Major Abhinav Rawat and Major Abhijeet Singh are leading an extraordinary group of 21 cyclists, aged between 23 and 45 years, on an unprecedented mission. Their journey, which began from the icy peaks of the Siachen Base Camp, aims to culminate at Indira Point in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, where they will hoist the national flag.

Covering approximately 5,500 km, this remarkable expedition celebrates the platinum jubilee of the Territorial Army (TA) and stands as a historic first in TA’s legacy. The team recently reached Manali, a key milestone on their route, showcasing their unwavering determination and resilience.

During the event, the officers engaged with the students and staff, sharing insights into their “Mission Beyond Cycling”. This mission is not merely a test of physical endurance but also serves to raise awareness across the nation and strengthen the bond between civilians and the military. The officers highlighted the importance of unity between the armed forces and the citizenry, urging everyone to contribute to building a stronger nation.

The celebration was further enlivened by vibrant cultural performances from the students, including patriotic songs, dances, and dramatic tributes to the country’s freedom fighters and armed forces. Lieutenant Colonel Manoj’s stirring address left a profound impact on the audience, especially the students, inspiring them to take pride in their country and fulfill their duties as responsible citizens.

The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks from the school management and Principal Ekta, who expressed deep gratitude to the distinguished guests for their time, their inspiring journey and the invaluable messages they shared.
